Hands on Design, a brand connecting traditional craft manufacturers and designers from Japan and Italy, will open a pop-up store in the YO to BI corner on the 5th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store from April 26th to May 2nd. This will be the brand's first sales event in Japan.

The brand, which launched in Milan in the spring of 2015 with the aim of passing on the aesthetic sense and technical expertise of Japan's proud handcrafts to the next generation, opened its Milan store with the belief that by bringing together traditional craftsmen and designers from Japan and Europe, traditional crafts will be passed down in everyday life from the present to the future. At the same time, the brand has opened pop-up stores in Italy, the UK, France, and other countries, and is actively expanding its online store, with over 100 products available to date. This pop-up, held for the first time in Japan, will feature 12 workshops from Japan and abroad, including Kaikado, a Kyoto-based tea canister maker founded in 1875 and said to be the oldest in Japan, as well as 224 porcelain (Hizen Yoshida ware, Saga), Ercole Moretti (Murano glass, Venice), Lorenzo Franceschinis (woodwork, Udine), Maruyoshi Kosaka Lacquerware (lacquered glass, Nagano), Nakagawa Woodcraft (woodwork, Shiga), Ogatsu Inkstone Production and Sales Cooperative (Ogatsu, Miyagi), and TUMAR (felt, Kyrgyzstan). Participating artists include 13 designers, including Tomoko AZUMI, Tsukasa GOTO, Giulio IACCHETTI, Setsu & Shinobu ITO, Kanz Architetti, and Eliana LORENA. A variety of items will be on display, including sugar pots and lacquered glasses.
