Sep 8, 2014

Tokyo Station, which celebrates its 100th anniversary on December 20th, will host a variety of events through 2015. The GranRoof at the Yaesu Exit will host an illumination event from December 1st to January 12th, 2015. Based on the concept of "Tokyo colors," the event is being handled by Rhizomatiks, known for their work on Perfume's live performances. The event will feature futuristic lighting effects, including lighting that incorporates the wind blowing through the roof. The illuminations will be on from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The Tokyo Station Gallery will also host two special exhibitions. From November 18th to 30th, it will host "Special Open Week - 13 Days of Fun at the Museum Inside the Station." Workshops and talk shows will be held on the theme of "Tokyo Station, the City, and Art." Projection mapping using a model of Tokyo Station will also be featured. Opening hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (until 8:00 PM on Fridays). Admission is 200 yen for adults and university students. Meanwhile, from December 13th to March 1st, 2015, the museum will host the "Tokyo Station 100 Years of Memories" exhibition. Focusing on Tokyo Station from various perspectives, including modern architectural history, visual culture, and literature, the exhibition will reexamine its significance. Opening hours are 10:00 to 18:00 (until 20:00 on Fridays). Closed on Mondays except January 12th, and from December 29th to January 1st and January 13th. Admission is 900 yen for adults and 700 yen for high school and university students. In conjunction with the exhibition, two exhibition halls in the Kanto region will also host Tokyo Station-themed events. The Railway Museum will host the "Tokyo Station 100th Anniversary Exhibition (tentative title)" from November 22nd to February 16th, 2015, showcasing the construction process of Tokyo Station and the railway engineers and architects involved. The "Old Shimbashi Station Railway History Exhibition Room" will also feature an exhibition titled "The Opening of Tokyo Station and Its Era," focusing on 1914, the year the Tokaido Main Line switched its starting point to Tokyo Station. The exhibition will showcase the joys of train travel and sightseeing in Tokyo at that time from December 9th to March 22nd, 2015.

In conjunction with these events, the official Tokyo Station City website will open a special website for a limited time from the 16th to March 31st, 2015. Details of the 100th anniversary events and information on commemorative items for sale at Tokyo Station City will be posted there.

The official website also accepts photos of memorable moments at Tokyo Station. Selected photos will be displayed inside the station and on the 100th anniversary Yamanote Line wrapped train.
