The "Ethical Fashion Project in Isetan" will be held at the three main buildings of Isetan Shinjuku from September 10th to 23rd.
Ethical means "ethical" in Japanese. The store will focus on each brand's "background for creating their products," "what activities they are engaged in," and "the brand's sense of ethics," and will use videos and letters from the designers to communicate this to consumers.
There will be two exhibition venues. The first is West Park, where remade and reused products will be displayed. The lineup includes three bags (19,000 yen, 39,000 yen, 113,000 yen) from Bottletop, which makes products from recycled pull tabs; Christopher Raeburn, which creates clothing and bags using fabric made from melted PET bottles; and Mich Dulce, which makes a headband (51,000 yen) from fabric made from recycled banana fiber.
Also featured at International Designers West is the latest collection from Stella Jean, which supports the industries of local people by producing part of its fabric in Africa.
Created by a Tahitian-born designer, the brand is known for its impactful designs, combining primary colors and patterns. The ONLY MI skirt (73,000 yen/due for release on September 17th), made with African fabric, is another piece with a beautiful design featuring a bold, dancing pattern.
During the event, West Park will use the entire venue to express its "ethical" message, including an exhibition that shows the process of how plastic bottles are made into products. It looks like you can learn about eco-friendly and environmental issues while enjoying your shopping.
