Shiseido's top hair and makeup artist, Tadashi Harada, has collaborated with the manga "Terra Formars" (original story by Yu Takaya, art by Kenichi Tachibana). This is his second live-action adaptation of a manga character, following last year's "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure."
"Terra Formars," currently serialized in Shueisha's "Weekly Young Jump," is a science fiction work depicting the battle between humans and cockroaches that have evolved into humanoids. The popular series boasts a total circulation of over 8.7 million copies, and an anime TV series will begin airing on TOKYO MX on September 26th.
This time, he has created a creative work that combines hair and makeup, fashion, and CG, using live-action models of characters from the original work. Based on one beautiful female character from "Terra Formars," "Michelle K. Davis," who was said to be difficult to adapt into live-action, he created three different works, each with a different fashion sense. "This is the second live-action adaptation, and it was a challenge to go beyond the boundaries of hair and makeup to explore even greater possibilities. Building on the trusted JoJo filming team, we brought in new specialists in their respective fields, creating a collaborative project with these comrades," said Harada. The specialists brought together are three professionals from different fields: stylist Takeshi Takahashi, costume director Saori Tsuji, and CG artist Kaihei Hayano. The collaboration with Takahashi featured a white bodysuit from SOMARTA and new shoes from Masaya Kushino, creating a stylish and elegant look. The collaboration with Tsuji incorporated armor, bringing the insects' vileness and strength to life in live action. The CG visuals with Hayano will be released in the November issue of Weekly Young Jump. Like Harada, a manga lover, these three are avid readers of Terra Formars. It seems as though they resonated with each other's hearts when they created this work. "Our respective sensibilities fused, creating a chemical reaction that was sublimated into the beautiful and powerful Michelle K. Davis. We were able to achieve this revolutionary expression of beauty that breaks preconceived notions only thanks to the generous support and cooperation of our allies who shared our aspirations. Without them, this mission would not have been possible," Harada said, looking back on the production.
These works will be featured in the October issue of the monthly magazine "Ultra Jump" (Shueisha), on sale September 19th, and the November issue on sale October 18th. A feature is also planned in "Weekly Young Jump," where "Terra Formars" is serialized.
