The Isetan Shinjuku store is hosting "Traditional meets modern - with Persia carpet," an event that brings together the traditional beauty of Persian carpets with high-end modern furniture, through September 9th. According to the event organizer, the goal of the event is to allow visitors to experience "Persian carpets in everyday life." By creating two spaces—"Japanese modern," which combines Persian carpets with Japanese furniture, and "European modern," which combines Persian carpets with modern European furniture—visitors can easily imagine what a Persian carpet would look like in their own homes. Of course, visitors can actually touch and feel the texture of each item. Because each Persian carpet is individually handmade, each one has its own unique character, and since it's difficult to fully convey that character in photographs, seeing them in person can have a profoundly different impact. For this reason, the organizer encourages visitors to "appreciate these historic works of art up close."
Also, at the venue, panels will introduce the origins, history, and meanings of Persian carpets, as well as the individual patterns. A thorough explanation will be provided, starting from the very beginning, to make it easy to understand even for those who have never been interested in Persian carpets before.
During the event, a talk show will be held by Iranian talent Sahel Rose. Sahel, who once weaved a Persian carpet herself, will discuss Islamic culture and the appeal of Persian carpets through a Q&A session. Upcoming talk shows are scheduled for September 6th and 7th (starting at 3:00 PM each day).
Next to the talk show venue, Sahel's mother will demonstrate how to make a Persian carpet. Depending on the flow of the conversation, you can expect to see some dialogue between the two.
