UNDERCOVER's first graphic exhibition, "TGRAPHICS 1990-2014 - HISTORY OF UNDERCOVER T GRAPHICS," will open at Parco Museum in Shibuya on September 6th. The brand's origins lie in the hand-printed T-shirts that the brand sold with a friend while attending Bunka Fashion College in 1990. The brand began participating in Tokyo Collections in 1994 and made its international debut at Paris Collection in 2003. This exhibition, themed around graphic prints, marks a return to the brand's roots. The exhibit features a wide range of artworks, including vintage T-shirts that made the brand a firm favorite, as well as original artwork and giclee prints of graphic T-shirts from the 1995 Spring/Summer collection to the 2014-2015 Autumn/Winter collections, including Nirvana T-shirts, Hamburger T-shirts, and Men@Walk T-shirts. Designer Jun Takahashi visited the store for a reception party on the 5th. Regarding his feelings toward T-shirts, he said, "This year or next will mark 25 years since I started the brand, but I still vividly recall those early days, when I was silkscreen printing in an apartment without a bath. For me, T-shirt design is an important element for expressing the concrete creations in my head." Regarding his future plans, he said, "I want to continue to deliver new designs to everyone as a T-shirt evangelist in the fashion world. And if the day comes when Undercover will end, I want to conclude on a high note with the same hand-printed T-shirts we started with."
During the exhibition, all five types of reprinted T-shirts will be sold exclusively at the venue, and original graphic artwork from the exhibited works will be available for order (with some exceptions). In addition, a pre-sale of "TGRAPHICS," a collection of approximately 300 Undercover graphic works, including graphics not on display, will be available until September 23rd.
