Ellie Omiya's solo exhibition at Shibuya Hikarie. A "secret garden" that will make you skip.

Apr 28, 2017

Ellie Omiya's exhibition "Secret Garden" is currently running until May 22nd at 8/ ART GALLERY/ Tomio Koyama Gallery on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie.

This is Omiya's first solo exhibition at the gallery, and features over 10 pieces, including her latest work "Fortune Flowers," as well as works previously exhibited at the Towada Art Center in 2016.

Omiya is actively practicing the live painting technique, in which she depicts her emotions directly onto a single canvas accompanied by live music. "My live paintings are stories. The story unfolds one after the other," the artist says. These works evoke a three-dimensional sense of the surrounding noise and light.

In holding this exhibition, Omiya has sent a message saying, "This is a secret garden. I would like to make this a small solo exhibition like that. It's fragrant. The paintings are windows. From there, you can see various gardens and flowers. It's as if you can feel the pure feelings of flowers, the energy of the sun, and the breeze blowing through. Welcome to such a room! I hope you will skip away when you leave."

In addition, during the exhibition, from 1pm to 7pm on May 13th and 14th (mini talk and autograph session from 3pm to 5pm on the 13th), past music videos, commercials, films, documentaries, and more that Omiya has worked on will be screened at 8/COURT, across from the gallery.
