Sometimes the flight of a butterfly can spark inspiration. The new Octo Roma Central Tourbillon Papillon is complex in its construction, yet its hours and minutes are incredibly simple to read.

Inspired by a metaphor inspired by the flight of a butterfly, this mechanism features two independent diamond-shaped hands mounted on a support disk. These hands are retractable, a dynamic mechanism unique in the world of haute horlogerie. Each hand rotates, alternating between positions on a 180-degree semicircular minute track.

A jumping hour aperture at 12 o'clock displays the hours, while two minute hands alternate between indicating the minutes. While the first hand moves along the minute track, signaling the progression of the minutes, the second hand changes direction on the disc and moves halfway around the opposite side of the minute track, remaining retracted. When the first hand reaches the 55-minute mark, the second hand gradually makes a quarter turn and displays the 00-minute mark in a position parallel to the first. The first hand then moves forward, remaining retracted until the next hand reaches the 55-minute mark. Bvlgari has combined this patented Papillon with the most prestigious complication, the tourbillon.



The new Octo Roma Central Tourbillon Papillon incorporates this high-precision mechanism at the heart of the watch. The time is displayed in a 24-hour jumping hour display in an aperture at 12 o'clock, using a ceramic ball-bearing disc. When one of the two "butterfly" hands reaches 60 minutes, the disc jumps and the new hour is displayed in the aperture.

The advantage of this Papillon mechanism is that it consumes less power than a traditional minute display, which has a positive impact on the power reserve. The model's sophisticated movement is powered by the automatic mechanical manufacture movement, BVL 332, entirely designed and assembled in accordance with the finest traditions by the master watchmakers of the Manufacture Bvlgari. The rose gold Octo Roma also features a 60-hour power reserve indicator on the back of the case.
