There are many silk textile production areas and businesses in the greater Kanto region, primarily in northern Kanto. The "Silk Path Wide-Area Collaboration Project," launched in August 2014 by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, aims to connect these businesses and production areas, promote the appeal and potential of silk, and implement measures focused on silk as a tourism and export resource, with an eye toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. In conjunction with this, a "Silk Path - Play -" pop-up event will be held from March 2nd to 8th at the TOKYO Kaihoku Zone on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, hosted by Kaela Kimura. The event will feature a lineup of special silk items created specifically for this project by Keisuke Kanda, Spoken Words Project, and Yoshikazu Yamagata, as well as the debut of the project's brand, "cilk," which focuses on the everyday use of silk. The event will feature photographs by Kaela Kimura showcasing the diverse properties of silk through various ways to play with it. Trackmaker Hidefumi Kenmochi will play a playful soundtrack, combining the sounds of silk processing with words by the artist. The soundtrack will be binaurally recorded for a immersive, three-dimensional experience. Collaborative merchandise with Kaela Kimura's "Silk's Path - Play" project will also be available for purchase. Creative Director Souta Yamaguchi said, "As I learned more about silk through this project, I realized that it is an extremely delicate material, and therefore highly challenging to work with, both from the consumer's and the creator's perspective." While silk is often associated with kimono and special occasions, this is precisely because silk has long been valued. However, when considering how to encourage people to wear silk on a daily basis, Yamaguchi commented, "I wanted to break away from the notion that silk is reserved for special occasions." With this in mind, the theme of this pop-up event is "play," with the desire to "propose the act of using silk in everyday life as fashion itself."

The event will also be held from March 9th to 15th at the Le Place promotion space on the 3rd floor of the Mitsukoshi Ginza store, and at the special venue on the 5th floor of JR Kyoto Isetan.
