Kansai Yamamoto, with fashion director Sota Yamaguchi as creative director, opened a limited-time shop called "Kansai" on April 8th at The Stage #1 on the first floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku. The shop will showcase new collections and "Japonism Fashion," a reimagining of Japanese traditions, culture, and styles that are sublimated into modern fashion. The shop will be on sale until the 14th.
Items on sale include the MANAGU-TAKO T-SHIRT (18,000 yen), painted with a paintbrush pattern from Akita's traditional craft, the HANA-KARUTA T-SHIRT (18,000 yen), which features all the patterns from the Japanese card game "Hana Karuta" on one T-shirt, the BIG MESH TOP "SHOUGI" (25,000 yen), made from Mino washi paper woven using the karamiori weaving technique and featuring thick hand-printed patterns of gold and silver shogi pieces, and the KAPPOU-ONE PIECE (43,000 yen), which has wide cuffs that can be pulled up to adjust the sleeve length.
Collaborations with Japan's leading brands and artisans are also a highlight. In collaboration with workwear manufacturer Toraichi, the store will sell KNICKERBOCKERS (55,000 yen), which feature Toraichi's basic knickers with a fierce tiger design. It has also teamed up with OJAGA DESIGN, a handmade leather brand committed to Made in Japan products. Other items on offer include miscellaneous goods, silk-cotton kimonos, lacquered leather products, silver jewelry crafted from raw stones, and collections recently presented by Kansai Yamamoto in London and Istanbul. Kansai Yamamoto will also be in attendance during the event. On April 11th and 12th (both days from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM), he will handwrite a name for customers and engrave it in a red circle, just like the new brand logo. (Eligible for purchases of over 10,000 yen at the venue, limited to the first 30 people per session.)
Yamamoto also visited the store before it opened on the first day of the event, and commented, "This event at Isetan is merely a starting point that connects with everything that surrounds us in life. I hope that people will be able to receive the power of the 'festival' that will be generated from the venue."
Yamaguchi Sota was born in 1982 and graduated from Bunka Fashion College, where he received the 22nd Principal's Award. Since 2006, he has worked as a stylist and director of "MIKIRI HASSIN," and in 2012 opened the next-generation select shop "Pyaruko" (renamed "Paryuko" in 2014) at Shibuya Parco.
