"Tatsuki Masaru, Gokita Tomoo, and Gokita Yuri" is an exhibition by three photographers active at the forefront of the Japanese and international art scenes: photographers Tatsuki Masaru and Mabe Yuri, and painter Gokita Tomoo. The exhibition will run from May 5th to July 15th at Gallery Amala, newly opened in Kichijoji, Tokyo. Tomoo Gokita is a painter who creates improvised drawings that incorporate a variety of imagery, including pop culture, professional wrestling, horror movies, and geometric patterns. While Gokita has exhibited abstract monochrome paintings at galleries overseas, this time he will be showcasing experimental color works. Tatsuki Masaru is a photographer who won the 2011 Kimura Ihei Photography Award for his photo book "Tohoku." The exhibition will feature works from "DECOTORA," a collection of works that, along with this work, are representative of his longtime work capturing art trucks and their drivers across Japan. Also on display will be a new work, "Sun on the 70th Anniversary of the End of the War: Suginami, Tokyo," which depicts a folk event held in a mountain village far from Tokyo, marking the 70th anniversary of Japan's end of World War II. Yuri Mabe is a photographer who has produced works capturing subjects she encounters while traveling both domestically and internationally, including Portland, USA, and Germany. She has garnered attention for her ability to capture her subjects' expressions and the high quality of her photographs. This exhibition will feature her work "ice," which captures the beauty of the fleeting glow of faint light reflected on a rugged block of ice as it slowly melts, as well as a follow-up work. In conjunction with the exhibition, items will be available for purchase, including a collection of her work, artist T-shirts, and three limited-edition objects (50 of each, signed) created in collaboration between Gokita and Project Cul de Sac - JAPON, which produces organic products made from Aomori cypress. The exhibition also features old art books selected by Suzuki Kiyoshi, who works as an AD for the magazine "STUDIO VOICE," providing an opportunity to experience the edgy worldview of contemporary artists.
