Bunkamura's "Utagawa Kuniyoshi & Kunisada Exhibition" collaborates with Ginza Mitsukoshi! Rare ukiyo-e prints on display

The Terrace Court on the 9th floor of the Mitsukoshi Ginza store is hosting a collaborative project called "Edo Girls, Edo Gentlemen" through May 9th at the Bunkamura Museum. The exhibition features rare works from the Mitsukoshi Archives' collection, including "One Hundred Beauties of Edo's Famous Places: Surugacho" (November 1858), a work from the "One Hundred Beauties of Edo's Famous Places" series, in which Utagawa Toyokuni III depicts beautiful women and customs associated with each of Edo's famous places, and Utagawa Kunihisa II adds landscapes from his spinning top paintings; and "Arashi Kichisaburo III's Hokuma Nagayoshi" (late Tenpo period), a nishiki-e (colored woodblock print) depicting the sumo ring from the kabuki play "Futatsuchocho Kuruwa Nikki." Kabuki costumes, including a "Uchikake with a Peacock, Cherry Blossom and Peony Motif on a Turquoise Satin Ground" and a "Uchikake with a Feathered Robe and Pine Pattern on a Crested Ibis Satin Ground," will also be on display.

In addition, official exhibition merchandise will be on sale. Items include badges (300 yen) featuring ukiyo-e works by Nosarai Gosuke, stickers (800 yen), small plates (800 yen), mini glasses (1,000 yen), and foil-stamped postcards (238 yen including tax).
