Atom and Hatsune Miku enter the world of Rinpa! A collaboration between 400 years of history and popular characters

May 18, 2016

"We Are Carrying On the Rinpa School: An Exhibition Where Characters Stood in the World of Rinpa," a collaboration between Rinpa and a wide range of characters from Tezuka's works to Hatsune Miku, will be held from May 20th to 29th in the Main Space on the first floor of AL in Ebisu, Tokyo.

The exhibition will feature collaborative works between Rinpa and anime and manga works, created based on the idea of "What would happen if manga and anime were drawn using Rinpa techniques?" The exhibition will include works by artists from Howado, a kimono and obi manufacturer that was a huge hit at the "Rinpa Homage Exhibition" held at the Kyoto International Manga Museum in 2015, as well as new works created specifically for the exhibition. Collaborative works with manga and anime include "Panja and Leo in Akino," "Atom and Mt. Fuji," "Korilakkuma and the Bamboo Grove," "Fang of the Sun Dougram/Fallen Fruit of the Fang of the Sun," "Hatsune Miku and Iris Screen," "Holy Mirror and Red and White Plum Blossoms," "Firebird and Mount Horai," "Rilakkuma and Pine Trees Familiar with the Sea," "Rilakkuma and Plum Blossoms on the Eaves," and "Leo and Unico." Works by Towado on display include "Long-Tailed Rooster," "Flowers and Plants of the Four Seasons," "Two Dogs," "White Elephant," "Dayflowers," and "Flowing Water."
