The "Kinshai Arita Mamezara Journey," an exhibition showcasing the charms of Arita ware mamezara, will be held from June 18th to 28th at the Bunkamura Gallery on the first floor in Shibuya, Tokyo.

The "Kinshai Arita Mamezara Journey" is one of 17 projects undertaken by Saga Prefecture as part of the "Arita Ware 400th Anniversary Project" to promote "Global Arita Ware." Launched last year, 26 potteries collaborated to raise awareness of Arita ware culture and the artisan town of Arita through a new perspective: "Understanding the 400-year history of this large production area through small, palm-sized mamezara." To date, the exhibition has featured permanent exhibits and online stores, as well as pop-up shops in approximately 20 major department stores and lifestyle shops across the country, showcasing the unique ease of use, distinctive beauty, and collectibility of mamezara. This special exhibition, "Kinshai Arita Mamezara Journey," will feature 147 small plates. It will also feature four up-and-coming collections led or participated in by potteries representing the next generation of Arita ware. The collection lineup includes ARITA JIKI, which offers mugs painted with distinctive designs by various potteries; 224 porcelain, which challenges new manufacturing techniques based on the techniques of Hizen Yoshida ware potteries, which have been honing the essential techniques of Arita ware and other products behind the scenes since the Edo period; the Koyogama Caramel/Olive series, which uses an original caramel and olive-colored glaze; and hibi, which explores the potential of Arita ware in categories other than tableware, such as aroma diffuser-shaped brooches, with the theme of "Bringing Arita ware to fashion." In addition, interactive workshops with painters will be held on June 24th from 4:00 PM, and on the 25th and 26th from 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM. Each session lasts about an hour, and the participation fee is 3,000 yen per item (shipping + starting from 1,000 yen).
