"Samurai Armor Bag" now available at Shinjuku Isetan. It's called NOBUNAGA!

Aug 7, 2015

From August 19th to 24th, the Isetan Shinjuku store will be showcasing an artistic bag that represents the "crystallization of artisanal sophistication" in the Japanese accessories section on the 7th floor of the main building. The bag, called "MIYAKE Samurai Armor Bag" (160,000 yen), is a one-of-a-kind piece created by Miyake Gensho, a second-generation Kyoto doll craftsman.

This bag, entirely handmade, utilizes the same stitching techniques used to make armor for May dolls. It is crafted using cord provided specifically for this bag by a Kyoto braiding maker, and colored aluminum is sewn onto it. The main material is cowhide leather. This reflects Miyake's desire to "infuse each piece with the highest level of craftsmanship, rather than mass-produce it." A variety of other unique products will also be on display.

The bag is designed for everyday business use, and is designed to be easy to use. Its size is carefully designed to fit A4-sized documents. Available in two colors, red and black, the products are interestingly named after samurai warriors, such as "NOBUNAGA," "YUKINARI," "MITSUHIDE," and "RANMARU," depending on the design. The buyer in charge elegantly commented on the products, saying, "I hope that these products will help businessmen who are surviving the rough seas of society to fight with the spirit of a samurai." He will also be making an appearance at the venue. A production demonstration is also scheduled for August 22nd.

Tumblers and leather accessories from Nishimura Yuzen Chokokuten will also be on display during the event. Be sure to come and see these masterpieces from this long-established company, founded in 1934, up close.
