Bentley unveils latest hybrid model, featuring new, more sustainable materials throughout the cabin

Aug 12, 2021
Bentley has announced details of a new limited-edition model celebrating the introduction of its latest Flying Spur Hybrid.

The Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssian Edition is inspired by the EXP 100 GT concept car, which showcases Bentley's vision of luxury mobility in 2035. It also marks the first step in Bentley's adoption of new sustainable materials as part of its Beyond 100 strategy.

In addition to being equipped with an advanced hybrid powertrain delivering 544 PS and 750 Nm of torque, the Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssian Edition also features new, more sustainable materials throughout the cabin, with design details that directly reflect those of the centenary concept car. The cabin features beautiful tweed panels made from 100% British wool, a unique, natural, luxurious textile created exclusively for Bentley using bespoke yarns in a tone-on-tone blend.

With a focus on sustainability, the fascia and waistrails are crafted from open-pore koa wood, requiring 90% less lacquer than a high-gloss finish, allowing you to enjoy the texture and beauty of the wood's natural surface. Crafted from the finest available wood, they are finished with just three ultra-thin layers of lacquer, totaling just 0.1mm.

The centre console is finished in sophisticated, minimalist piano linen panels, while an exclusive three-tone leather scheme adds new depth to the entire interior. In addition to new materials, sustainable leather, designed for long-term durability, is used extensively throughout the cabin. The inspiration was Bentley's 1955 S1 Flying Spur, which still retains its original 66-year-old leather interior.

The interior is accented by Autumn, a soft, warm hide available in five finishes combining Beluga, Porpoise, Cricket Ball, Brunel and Burnt Oak leathers with a lighter, more modern linen hide. Entry and exit reveal the Odyssian Edition's unique treadplates, which match the exterior D-pillar badging. Similar to the ombré finish found in the EXP 100 GT interior, a unique new embroidery style uses graduated thread colours to highlight the Flying Spur's distinctive 'lofted diamond' pattern.

The deep pile overmat features a contrast binding and can be upgraded to a lambswool rug, further increasing the proportion of wool in your interior.

On the exterior, 21-inch 10-spoke twin-spoke wheels and Pale Brogger accents painted on the lower brightware (front and rear bumpers, headlight and taillight surrounds and lower chrome bodysides) create a unique and understated character. Six carefully selected colours are recommended to complement the Pale Brogger accents, but you can also choose from the full Bentley palette.

Study Results Prove the Effectiveness of Bentley Hybrids

As part of Bentley's journey towards electrification and its recently announced Beyond 100 strategy (to have its entire range exclusively plug-in hybrids or battery electric vehicles by 2026), a study was undertaken to gain a detailed understanding of Bentley hybrid customer usage.

More than 90% of customers use the first-generation Bentayga Hybrid daily or several times a week, with nearly 100% using EV mode, and half of those consistently traveling under 30 miles.

Realistically, that means the majority of journeys, such as commuting to work or school, can be done with zero emissions.

Efficient and Effortless Grand Touring

The Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssian Edition proves that hybrid doesn't compromise luxury or performance. The fusion of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor delivers refined tranquility whatever the driving mode or style.

The new powertrain pairs a 2.9-liter V6 petrol engine with an advanced electric motor. With its high power reserve, excellent torque and quick throttle response, the latest hybrid model rivals the Flying Spur V8 in acceleration, sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds).

With 544 PS and 750 Nm of torque, that's 95 PS more than the Bentayga Hybrid. The Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssian Edition can travel more than 700 km on a full charge.

This new powertrain delivers the effortless and refined performance that Bentley is known for, while significantly reducing fuel consumption.

In addition to unique colour and trim features, the Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssian Edition includes a range of optional features, including:
- Touring Specification - Bentley's full suite of advanced driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, lane assist, SafeGuard Plus, night vision, and a head-up display.
- Electrically deploying, illuminated Flying B bonnet mascot.
- LED welcome lamps (projecting Bentley wings onto the floor from all four doors).
- Leather headliner.
- 3D diamond leather seats in the doors and rear quarters.
- Rotating display.
- Interior mood lighting.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price in Japan is 30.8 million yen (including 10% consumption tax), and orders are already being taken.
