Cafe 1886 at Bosch opens in Shibuya, offering collaborative menus with famous coffee shops like Toriba Coffee

Aug 28, 2015

Cafe 1886 at Bosch, a cafe offering exclusive menu items such as original blend coffee from TORIBA COFFEE and gourmet sandwiches created by the chef of French restaurant Mardi Gras, will open in Shibuya, Tokyo (3-6-7 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) on September 10th. Located on the first floor of the Shibuya headquarters of BOSCH, a German global company known for its power tools, cafe 1886 at Bosch is a collaboration between creators from various fields, including food and beverage, spatial design, and fashion. Ginza coffee roaster TORIBA COFFEE will be offering a blend exclusive to the cafe. Two types of coffee are available: a dark roast inspired by German blends (400 yen) and a light roast (500 yen), hand-brewed for each order. Other options include a "Cafe Latte" (450 yen) with latte art and an original flat white (500 yen).

As for food, gourmet sandwiches created exclusively for the restaurant by Chef Toru Wachi of Mardi Gras, a renowned French restaurant in Ginza, will be available. They are inspired by German food culture and served on original bread developed to match the ingredients. The lineup includes four types: "Slava" (850 yen), a German sausage sandwich with Oberkrainer, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut sandwiched between rye bread; "Falafel" (700 yen), a healthy falafel sandwich sandwiched between grain and roasted oats; and "Vienna" (850 yen), a ham cutlet sandwich seasoned with curry coffee powder. Other menu items include the "Baked Apple Doughnut & Vanilla Ice Cream" (650 yen), an adaptation of "Apple Küchele," a traditional apple confectionery from the Stuttgart region of Germany where Bosch is headquartered, and "Crepe Soup," an adaptation of "Fredelsuppe," a traditional German soup.

The interior design of the cafe and adjacent lobby was handled by Shigeru Kubota of Kubota Architecture and Urban Planning. The cafe area is themed around the "past," while the foyer area is themed around the "future." The cafe's interior also incorporates a magneto, a representative early product of Bosch, used in automobile engines to ignite the engine.

The cafe is also equipped with free Wi-Fi and power outlets, and plans are in place to hold workshops using Bosch products in the future.
