Toyota Harrier x Malenco limited cafe opens. Sarutahiko Coffee talks about N. Harrier "purple"

Jun 25, 2015

The "TOYOTA HARRIER CAFE" is a limited-time collaboration between the Toyota Harrier and interior brand arflex's iconic sofa, MARENCO, to coincide with the release of the special edition "PREMIUM Style Mauve" Harrier. The cafe will be open until June 28th at the Roppongi Hills Big Roof Plaza. Located in one of Roppongi Hills' most spacious, semi-outdoor spaces, the cafe boasts a chic and luxurious atmosphere, featuring a purple theme, inspired by the color "MAUVE." Guests can relax and enjoy limited-edition coffee on the floor of a purple carpet, gazing at the Harrier special edition sparkling in the sunlight while sitting on a special "HARRIER MARENCO" sofa by Marenco, crafted from the same material as the Harrier's interior. The drinks will be served by Sarutahiko Coffee, a specialty coffee shop known as a pioneer of the recent third-wave coffee boom. The theme of this year's original signature coffee (creative coffee) is, of course, purple. The "Sparkling 'Style MAUVE' Blueberry Carbonated Coffee," with its refreshing clear purple color, is a striking drink made by adding blueberries to concentrated cold-brewed Harrier Blend coffee, mixed with sparkling water, and garnished with mint. The "Au Lait 'Style MAUVE' Acai Cafe au Lait," with its adorable whitish purple hue, is a cafe au lait with acai and lime, offering a refreshing yet mild flavor with a chocolate-like aroma. In addition to these two drinks, the cafe will also offer the "Original 'Style MAUVE' Cold Brew Coffee," which allows you to directly experience the essence of Sarutahiko Coffee's specialty coffee. A special talk show was held on the 24th, the cafe's opening day, to celebrate its opening. Guests included Daisuke Obana, designer of Japan's leading fashion brand N.HOOLYWOOD, who inspired the cafe's design; Tomoyuki Otsuka of Sarutahiko Coffee; Akira Kashiwagi of arflex; and Isao Konishi of Toyota Industries Corporation, who designed the interior of the special edition Harrier. The four sat on HARRIER MARENCO sofas and chatted over signature coffees. Konishi explained that the car's lustrous purple image color was actually inspired by fashion brand collections from around the world. Obana responded, "Purple is a very difficult color to achieve in men's fashion. It looks great when used as a focal point on shoes or bags, but my own brand has never released a collection entirely in purple." He praised the bold decision and success of the car's color design. Following Kashiwagi's comments about Marenco, Otsuka promoted the cafe's coffee. "This time, we tried to reflect the difficult theme of purple in the coffee, and in reference to the Harrier, we imagined a coffee that you would want to drink while driving," he said.

The cafe will be open until 9pm during the event. In addition, visitors who post photos taken at the venue on social media will be given a voucher for a free cup of coffee, and those who answer a questionnaire will also be given the chance to receive an original Harrier drip bag designed by Sarutahiko Coffee.
