Shinjuku Isetan collaborates with ARITA 400project to feature Arita ware artworks by Kashiwa Sato and Ken Okuyama

Oct 18, 2016

Isetan Shinjuku store will launch the "ARITA 400project × ISETAN SHINJUKU" collaborative project with the "ARITA 400project," a project celebrating 400 years since the founding of Arita porcelain, on October 19th. Special themed events will be held at venues such as The Stage on the first floor of the main building.

The Stage on the first floor of the main building will host an event themed "Arita porcelain as depicted by creators" from October 19th to 25th, and at the Window from October 19th to November 1st. The Stage will exhibit and sell works by collaborative creator Kashi Sato and project producer Ken Okuyama. Sato has prepared the "Dissimilar" series, which uses splash painting on Arita pottery clay and features geometric overlays of gold and silver. In addition to the 60cm large plate unveiled at Maison & Objet in January this year, the exhibition will feature pots, vases, small plates and other items painted using the same technique. Okuyama, who has created pieces that can be used in everyday life, has created works that utilize the techniques and characteristics of each pottery maker within simple designs.

As a triumphant return to Japan project, the window on the first floor of the main building will display works by fellow guest creators Beat Takeshi and Kuma Kengo, as well as works from the ARITA 400 project unveiled at Maison & Objet.
