Approximately 250 pieces of Arita ware and small plates are gathered together in one place. A special exhibition celebrating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware is being held at Bunkamura in Shibuya

Oct 3, 2016

ARITA SELECTION, established to promote Arita ware nationwide, will hold the "Kinshai Arita Journey: A Journey of Precious Pottery," showcasing over 100 pieces of Arita ware by 16 ceramic artists.

ARITA SELECTION was established to raise interest in and promote understanding of the culture of Arita ware and Arita, the town of artisans, from the new perspective of "understanding the large production region with 400 years of history through small, palm-sized Arita ware." As its first project, "Kinshai Arita Journey: A Journey of Precious Pottery" showcases the charm of kilns that continue to evolve through uncompromising pottery production through small plates.

This exhibition will feature over 100 pieces of Arita ware by 16 ceramic artists who devote their energy and soul to creating pottery every day in Arita. These rare, small vessels, which epitomize the individuality of their aesthetic sense and techniques, will be on display. In addition to works by 16 artists, 147 small plates from 26 kilns participating in the first project, "Kinshai Arita Small Plate Journey," will also be on display.

During the exhibition, there will be a variety of content allowing visitors to experience "Arita ware" in various ways, including talks by Arita town artists about their pottery making and workshops where viewers can participate.
