Ceramic artist Adam Silverman's exhibition "Blue" will be held from November 5th to 21st at 8/ART GALLERY/Tomio Koyama Gallery on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie. Adam Silverman, also known as a founding member of the fashion brand X-LARGE, began his career as a ceramicist in 2002. His numerous works, brimming with the energy to create new things, are characterized by their unpolished nature, emanating a mystical presence reminiscent of minerals freshly mined from the earth. Silverman also explores both classical and contemporary modes of expression, transcending the boundaries of ceramics and incorporating the spontaneous forms that arise during the firing process. Having studied architecture at university, he was heavily influenced by great 20th-century architects such as Le Corbusier. His geometric yet warm ceramic works are said to have a connection to modern architecture. The theme of this exhibition, his fourth at Tomio Koyama Gallery, is "blue." In addition to works focusing on blue, various combinations and overlapping blues, the exhibition will also feature several pure white pieces that clear up all the blues. Regarding the exhibition, Silverman said, "While many of the works in this exhibition were created in my Los Angeles studio, where I normally work, several were created in my summer studio in Rhode Island, nestled amidst the greenery of the forest near the Atlantic Ocean, where the light, air, and colors are all different from those in Los Angeles. Other works were started before my summer visit to Rhode Island and finished after returning to Los Angeles. Still others were created in the fall after I returned from Rhode Island. The various shades of blue have strong associations with the sea, the sky, and the expanse between the two, as well as with nature—flowers, birds, fish, insects, and minerals."
