Portable art!? French trunk manufacturer Moynat collaborates with artist Mambo

Oct 30, 2016

Moynat, a long-established French trunk manufacturer, is releasing a new collection inspired by French graffiti artist Mambo. One of the most notable pieces is a trunk featuring a canvas that Mambo used to lay on the floor of his Los Angeles studio while working, complete with paint splashes and footprints from his footsteps. The trunk, a work of art in itself, comes with a folding easel made of aluminum composite that can be unfolded to display up to six of the artist's artworks. The arched base of the trunk is cleverly designed to compactly store Mambo's paintings and other materials. Leather pockets on the trunk lid can also hold music, books, notepads, and other personal items that inspire the artist. "We wanted to create a trunk that could both transport and display artwork. What we created was a trunk that could transform any space into a gallery. There are no limitations to art," says Artistic Director Ramesh Nair of the trunk.

The collection also includes a Quattro tote bag in Taurillon Gec leather printed with Mambo's "Sweetness Galaxy" motif, and a silk twill scarf with hand-sewn edges. Furthermore, three of Mambo's iconic portraits, named "Claudia," "Brigitte," and "Michel," have been transformed into leather accessories using marquetry techniques.
