Haroon Mirza, a leading young artist in the UK art scene, will hold his first solo exhibition in Japan

Jan 21, 2013

Haroon Mirza, a young artist representing the British art scene of the 2010s, is holding his first solo exhibition in Japan at SCAI THE BATHHOUSE in Tokyo, which opened on January 18, 2013. The gallery, known for renovating a historic public bathhouse in Yanaka, will primarily feature works created by the artist himself during his visit to Japan. Born in the UK in 1977 and of Pakistani descent, Haroon won the UK Northern Art Price in 2010 and the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2011. He held a solo exhibition in New York in 2012. He calls himself a "composer" rather than a sound artist, and creates assemblages and installations using furniture, home appliances, antique household items, and sometimes older works by other artists, combining LED light, video, and electronic sounds. He has participated in various international exhibitions, including those in New York and South Korea, and has received remarkable acclaim both at home and abroad.
