The "Beads of the World" exhibition will be held at the Bunka Gakuen Costume Museum in Yoyogi, Tokyo, from June 18th.
The exhibition displays beads from 40 countries around the world, including glass beads called "tombodama," which were prized as trade goods, European bead-embroidered dresses, and clothing and accessories from various ethnic groups in Asia and Africa. It will introduce the history and diverse expressions of beads, which are still popular as a decorative material today.
Gallery talks will be held on July 12th and August 30th from 1:30 pm, limited to the first 30 people to arrive. The museum will also have an "Asian Beads Bazaar" selling Asian textiles, including Indian beads.
