An exhibition of original illustrations from artist Asami Kiyokawa's picture book "Alice in the Nursery" will be held at the Pola Museum Annex in Ginza, Tokyo, from March 8th.
The exhibition features original illustrations from Kiyokawa's latest picture book series, based on "Alice in the Nursery," a children's version of "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll himself.
The artist selected 25 scenes from the story and attempted to create 3D works using fabric, thread, beads, sequins, and other materials. Also, "Alice in the Nursery" (published by Little More), translated by Mizuhito Kanehara and illustrated by Kiyokawa, will be released on March 8th. A book signing event with Asami Kiyokawa will be held at the exhibition venue on March 23rd.
Kiyokawa, who worked as a fashion magazine model while attending Bunka Fashion College, made her breakthrough as an artist with her photo book "Bijo Saishu." She became Nissen's art director from the spring 2013 issue. She has also worked on numerous picture book series that use embroidery to depict stories such as Miyazawa Kenji's "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and "The Biography of Gusuko Dori."
