Yasuko Mitsuura's "I'm Not Sure To Receive" Brooch Exhibition Held at Omotesando Hills. There will also be an event where you can make one with her.

May 22, 2014

Yasuko Mitsuura, a comedian with 34 years of crafting experience, will be holding an exhibition of her works, "Brooch Exhibition: Things Boys Would Have a Hard Time Receiving, Things Kids Wouldn't Like, Not So Much," at Omotesando Hills' new information dissemination space, Omotesando Hills Pocket, from June 5th to 22nd. The exhibition will feature over 100 pieces, including new works, and will also be selling exhibited works for the first time (five new brooches). A talk event and book signing will be held with guest Chiaki at 2 PM on June 7th, and a craft workshop by Mitsuura herself will be held on the 21st (¥3,000 participation fee, first 20 people) at 2 PM and 4 PM. Merchandise will also be sold by the "Bussu!! Handicraft Club," a group of girls' handicrafts to which Mitsuura belongs, and a photo spot will be set up where visitors can take commemorative photos with panels of the members in the background. Mitsuura has been passionate about felt mascots since childhood, and as an adult, she began creating drawstring bags and other items with a sewing machine. In 2007, she discovered needle felting and focused on brooches. She creates brooches "filled with dreams, hope, and love," and distributes them to fellow entertainers. In 2012, she published her first craft book, "A Collection of Brooches Boys Would Embarrassed to Receive," followed in January 2014 with a second book, "A Collection of Brooches Kids Wouldn't Like to Receive" (both published by Switch Publishing), which also includes essays and photo stories. Her works have been exhibited at the "rooms" joint exhibition and other events, generating significant buzz. OMOTESANDO HILLS POCKET will be located in the central open space on the third floor of the main building of Omotesando Hills. It will showcase creators' works and announce new projects. The venue's basic layout and logo design were created by the creative unit "PHAMILY," led by architect Kei Murayama.
