Kinokuniya Bookstore at Shinjuku South Exit renovates its foreign book section. Wireless LAN and buyers are always on-site.

May 27, 2014
Kinokuniya Bookstore will expand its foreign book section on the sixth floor of its Shinjuku Minami store (Takashimaya Times Square, 5-24-2 Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) and open it as "Books Kinokuniya Tokyo" on May 29th. The new space will take up the entire floor space of 991.73 square meters. Modeled after Kinokuniya's overseas stores, the store aims to be the largest foreign book section in Japan. Targeting Japanese people interested in foreign cultures and inspiration, as well as the estimated 400,000 foreigners living in the Tokyo area who use English in their daily lives, the store will double its current inventory to 120,000 books. In addition to the specialized books it already carries, the store will also offer a stronger selection of fiction, picture books and children's books, international magazines, books from non-English-speaking countries like France and Italy, and international and American comics. Public Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed, and a specialized foreign book buyer will be on hand to handle inquiries and needs. To celebrate the store's opening, all products will be on sale until June 1st with a 20% discount, and the first 100 customers who spend over 2,000 yen will receive a special tote bag. To celebrate the publication of Paul Auster's "Man in the Dark," there will also be a talk and autograph session with translator Shibata Motoyuki (schedule to be determined). Other planned events include a permanent corner called "Japan in World Literature," which will feature a large selection of literary works by Japanese authors, mainly in English, and English picture book reading sessions.
