Starbucks releases new butterfly card designed by Asami Kiyokawa

May 27, 2014

Starbucks Coffee Japan will release a Starbucks card called "Butterfly" featuring a design by artist Asami Kiyokawa. Kiyokawa, who is sometimes inspired by Starbucks, designed the card with the message, "Love the life you live, and create your own new life." This is a first for Starbucks cards, and it features an augmented reality (AR) interface. When you launch the smartphone AR app "junaio" and hold the card over the card, the butterfly motif, which frequently appears in Kiyokawa's work, takes flight. Starting June 4th, the card will be available at Starbucks stores nationwide (with some exceptions) with a deposit of 1,000 yen or more. While studying at Bunka Fashion College, Kiyokawa worked as a fashion magazine model and created artwork by embroidering photographs. She made her breakthrough with "Bijo Saishu" (Beauty Collection) in 2006. He has also worked on Parco's Christmas campaign and provided art direction for Nissen, and presented three works at the Milan Salone in April 2014, including the installation "TOKYO MERRY-GO-ROUND."
