Armani/Casa unveils its first wallpaper collection [Milan Salone 2014 Report]

May 4, 2014

Interior decoration is a key focus for Giorgio Armani, who already operates a hotel business. In conjunction with the Salone del Mobile, the brand unveiled new interior items and redesigned its ARMANI/CASA website, www.armanicasa.com.

For Giorgio Armani, living spaces hold a special place in his heart. Homes reflect the tastes and preferences of their inhabitants and, more so than public buildings, are more likely to change over time. This year, Armani/Casa debuted its first decorative wallpaper series. In collaboration with Jannelli & Volpi, a Milanese wallpaper manufacturer, the series features digitally printed palm tree patterns on silk shantung woven with glitter threads. By combining the unique sheen of silk, which reflects light, with digital printing, it's possible to cover an entire wall with wallpaper resembling a landscape painting. Wallpaper can dramatically transform a space. And while Armani itself may not have intended it, the materials used also convey a sense of environmental consideration. The company's focus isn't solely on decorative purposes; instead, it incorporates materials like silk and sisal, which absorb harmful substances from the air and have deodorizing properties, as well as soundproofing, durability, and, thanks to their natural fibers, static electricity resistance, into its wall decorations.

A new furniture collection has also been introduced. This includes a desk with a linen top finished in handmade silver leaf and a lustrous patina, as well as a lighting collection inspired by old glass lamps from the Far East. All of the lighting is crafted using the traditional hand-blown glass technique from Murano, Venice. Light filtering through the translucent glass surfaces softly illuminates the space, evoking the impression of a meteorite floating in outer space.
