How "Shaun the Sheep" was born? Aardman Animations 40th Anniversary Exhibition

Aug 2, 2016

From August 3rd to 22nd, the Event Square on the 8th floor of Matsuya Ginza will host the "Shaun the Sheep Exhibition," celebrating the 40th anniversary of Aardman Animations, the British animation studio known for "Shaun the Sheep."

Aardman Animations is known for its "clay animation" method, in which characters are created out of clay and filmed one frame at a time (one shot taken with a camera). This exhibition will showcase Aardman Animations' representative works, including the "Shaun the Sheep" series, as well as the popular "Wallace & Gromit" series, "Chicken Run," and "A Good Life."

The exhibition is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 will feature a set over two meters tall from "Shaun the Sheep: Back to the Home" (released in 2015), as well as sets from the TV series and the "Timmy the Sheep" series, as well as character puppets. Chapter 2 will show how Aardman Animations' fascinating works, including "Shaun the Sheep," are created.

Chapter 3 will showcase the charm of popular works such as the "Wallace & Gromit" series, "Living Well," and "Chicken Run" in great detail, using actual sets, puppets, and storyboards used in works created by Aardman Animations. Color sketches for "Wallace & Gromit: A Cheese Holiday," directed by Nick Park, will also be on display in Japan for the first time.
