Seiko releases the pinnacle model of the Credor "Art Piece Collection," a collection of exquisite handcrafted timepieces

Jun 27, 2021

Seiko Watch Corporation will release a limited edition of one top-of-the-line model from the "Art Piece Collection" of luxury watch brand Credor to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the birth of skeleton models on June 25th. The suggested retail price is 24.2 million yen (tax included).

[Product Features]
Credor's first skeleton model, the GBBD998, was released in February 1996. The movement developed is the "Mechanical Movement Caliber 6899," a specially designed skeleton model that allows the interior of the watch to be seen from both the front and back.

At the time, when developing the movement, we aimed for a design that incorporated Japanese beauty based on our own unique design philosophy. This resulted in a distinctive model with a bridge inspired by bamboo bending in the wind and a beautiful chrysanthemum engraved on the movement. Furthermore, at 1.98mm, it was the thinnest in Japan while still being practical, and it became extremely popular from the start of its release.

This model pays homage to the original skeleton model and expands on the image of "bamboo," creating a majestic scene of a bamboo forest covered in falling snow. It expresses the tension of the bamboo bending under the weight of the snow and the overlapping scenes. The snow piled up on the bamboo is rendered with the sparkle of diamonds, while the bamboo leaves and snowflakes are rendered with a sharp sparkle created by masterful engraving. Tapered baguette diamonds are cut one by one to fit the curve of the bridge, depicting the dignified appearance of bamboo.

The diamond-set decorative parts are made of 18K white gold and feature engraving that expresses the tranquil atmosphere of snow, giving them a transparent shine.

The engraving on the movement, visible through the case back, is covered entirely in the "Kiku Komon" pattern, a redesigned version of the "Chrysanthemum" motif used in the original model, which appears even more delicate and elegant.

The Mississippi alligator strap (old bamboo color) from KYOTO Leather(R) (※1) is adorned with silver foil to match the watch, further enhancing its dignified appearance.

< Credor > was born in 1974 as a brand of high-end dress watches with rich individuality, leveraging Japanese sensibilities and exquisite craftsmanship. True to its name, which means "Golden Peak" (CRÊTED’ OR) in French, the brand continues to preserve the beauty and quality of its watches by applying the skills of master craftsmen to carefully selected materials, from the movement to each and every tiny component.
