Twelvebooks hosts "Photobook Symposium" at VACANT, where publishers themselves talk about photobooks

Aug 14, 2016

The Photobook Symposium, a presentation-style event featuring publishers themselves discussing photobooks, will be held on August 27th at VACANT in Harajuku, Tokyo, hosted by twelvebooks. This event coincides with the visit to Japan of Cécile Pambeufe-Koizumi and Vasantha Yogananthan, founders of CHOSE COMMUNE, a France-based independent publishing house renowned for its bold and free-spirited design and editorial sensibility. In the first part of the symposium, the two authors will each give a presentation using video and slideshows about two of the company's latest photobooks. Following the presentations, Vasantha Yogananthan will hold a book signing. In the second part of the symposium, Noriko Tsutaya, chief curator at the Shimane Museum of Art, will give a lecture on "Shoji Ueda's Sky," drawing on the photobook "SHOJI UEDA" by Shoji Ueda, published by CHOSE COMMUNE last year and garnering worldwide acclaim. Following the lecture, there will also be a talk session with both members of "CHOSE COMMUNE", where opinions will be exchanged on topics such as the differences between Ueda Shoji's photobooks published in Japan and those published by their own company.
