A fair at Gontran Cherrier where you can taste local breads from all over Japan, including "Mentaiko French Bread" and "Beef Tongue Curry Bread"!

Aug 16, 2016

Parisian boulangerie GONTRAN CHERRIER will be holding a fair from August 28th to mid-October to celebrate its fourth anniversary in Japan.

Since opening its first store in Shibuya, Tokyo in 2012, Gontran Cherrier himself has traveled all over the country, creating local-only menus inspired by ingredients from all over Japan, such as Sendai's zunda and beef tongue, Nagoya's Hatcho miso, and Fukuoka's mentaiko, and these have been enduringly popular since their launch. To mark the fourth anniversary of its arrival on August 28th this year, a fair with the theme of "LOCAL" will be held where limited-edition local breads can be purchased at all stores. Local breads include the "Mentaiko France" (280 yen), a sandwich of Fukuoka mentaiko paste and shiso leaves; the "Beef Tongue Curry Cube" (280 yen), a curry made with Sendai's specialty beef tongue wrapped in a lightly curry-flavored crust; and the "Hatcho Miso Lime" (250 yen), a rye bread made with a simple rye crust mixed with Hatcho miso, adding the sweetness of dainagon bean paste and the tartness of lime. Additionally, to commemorate the fourth anniversary, a new grand menu item will be released: the "White Chocolate and Basil Viennois," a specially produced crust by Gontran Cherrier, infused with plenty of white chocolate. The Shibuya store will also have an advance sale starting on the 27th. The fair will run from August 28th to mid-October at a total of six stores: three in Tokyo, and the stores in Sendai, Fukuoka, and Nagoya. At the Shibuya store and JR Nagoya Takashimaya store, there will also be in-store events with Gautran Cherrier himself. Additionally, at the JR Nagoya Takashimaya store, the first 300 customers who arrive on August 26th and make a purchase after 10am will receive a free croissant. At the Shibuya store, 200 customers each day on August 27th and 28th will receive a free limited edition box of White Chocolate and Basil Viennois.
