A movie dedicated to modern women by Gabrielle Chanel, who was born 133 years ago today

Aug 19, 2016

Gabrielle Chanel was born on August 19, 1883, 133 years ago today in 2016. Though raised in an orphanage, her determination and creativity led her to become one of the world's most iconic designers of the 20th century. Her story continues to fascinate and inspire women today who aspire to discover their own path in life. Last year, CHANEL launched "OUTSIDE CHANEL," a video project focused on women who, like Gabrielle Chanel, are carving out their own paths. Using a documentary approach, these women—opera singers, artists, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, photographers, DJs, historians, film directors, and more—talk about their lives, elegance, courage, and eternal femininity. Their stories reflect Chanel's vision and inspire other women to spread their wings and be themselves. The "Japan" edition of "OUTSIDE CHANEL," released last year, expressed the refinement and elegance of the Chanel spirit through five women, including Mademoiselle Yulia, Eriko Horiki, and Iku Yamamoto. The newly released "America" edition depicts positive energy, diversity, and resilience, while the "China" edition depicts how new energy blends with traditional customs amid constant change.
