The Shiseido Gallery in Tokyo's Ginza district is hosting a solo exhibition by Berlin-based Singaporean artist Ming-Wong, titled "Me in Me." The exhibition runs until September 22nd. The exhibition features a new video installation inspired by Japanese cinema and produced in Japan. Wong, who believes that "Western cinema exists as an extension of photography, while Japanese cinema is an extension of traditional performing arts such as Kabuki and Noh," has researched and analyzed Japanese cinema and its history, categorizing it into three genres: period drama, contemporary drama, and anime. Each of these three cinematic worlds is expressed as a typical example of Japanese cinema through its unique acting, cinematic shooting style, and narrative setting. This work has also been selected for inclusion in the Lyon Biennale, to be held in Lyon, France, this autumn. Wong is an artist who creates video works that remake classic cinematographic works. Since receiving a Special Jury Mention at the Venice Biennale in 2009, he has participated in numerous international exhibitions.
