Jul 8, 2013

"Re:construct," a collaborative exhibition by Katsuhiro Otomo and collage artist Kosuke Kawamura, will open at BAPE GALLERY in Kyoto on the 20th. This is their first collaborative exhibition since last year's "Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA Exhibition." The exhibition will feature over 20 pieces, including collages of Otomo's work that Kawamura used as materials to create the main visual for the "Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA Exhibition," as well as new works by Kawamura. A talk event featuring both artists will be held on the 21st. The venue will also be selling limited-edition commemorative merchandise featuring Otomo, Kawamura, and A BATHING APE. The exhibition will include a T-shirt (black or gray, 7,140 yen) printed with the main visual, and a tote bag (10,290 yen) featuring a black background with a reflective logo and illustration. A white T-shirt and ivory tote bag will also be available for pre-order from the 1st of next month, exclusively on BAPE.COM.

Otomo Katsuhiro is a manga artist and film director born in 1954. His representative works include "Domu" and "AKIRA." He has been appointed this year's direct mail artist for COMME des GARÇONS. At last year's Japan Media Arts Festival, his directorial work "Hi no Yojin," which depicts the great fire of Edo, won the Grand Prize in the Animation category. His short anthology film "SHORT PEACE," which includes this work, will be released in theaters from the 20th of this month.
