"Matofu" Omotesando flagship store holds exhibition of tableware and food artists

Jul 3, 2013

From July 27th, artist TAKAGI KAORU will be holding an exhibition of her tableware at the Omotesando flagship store of matohu, titled "If There Was Tableware There." The exhibition will run through August 6th. In addition to TAKAGI's tableware, the exhibition will also feature collaborative works, in which the tableware is wrapped in fabric designed by matohu. Additionally, a participatory event, "Time to Explore Tableware," will be held each day from 7 PM on the 27th to 31st, limited to seven people. Tableware created specifically for this event will also be featured. Participation is ¥4,000, and reservations are required on a first-come, first-served basis through matohu's official website. TAKAGI began studying under ceramic artist Hiromi Itabashi in 1993. In 1995, he graduated from the private contemporary art school B Seminar, and in 1999, he founded the tableware brand "Wo shi Ribenren." He has expanded his artistic activities beyond tableware to encompass clothing, food, and other genres. He focuses on the act of "eating," creating tableware and actively holding workshops in which small groups eat meals using that tableware as an art experience.

This exhibition is the fourth in Matofu's guest artist series, in which he introduces artists from Japan and abroad. To date, the store has held exhibitions in collaboration with MASA, a young antiques dealer from Kyoto, goldfish painter Ryusuke Fukahori, and contemporary artist Akiko Ban.
