The Sogetsu Ikebana exhibition, "My Vessels, My Flowers—When the Heart and Ikebana Meet," will be held on the 11th floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya from the 6th through June 11th. The exhibition will feature flowers arranged by Sogetsu flower arrangers in various vessels made from ceramics, glass, iron, stainless steel, and other materials. The exhibition will also feature a special exhibition, "From the Bamboo Forest of Echizen—Into Hiroshi Teshigawara's Pottery," celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Sogetsu Pottery Studio in Echizen Town, Nyu District, Fukui Prefecture, where Hiroshi Teshigawara, the third head of the Sogetsu School and film director, devoted himself to pottery. Akane Teshigawara, the fourth head of the Sogetsu School, commented, "For ikebana practitioners, the completion of a vessel is not the end point. The 'my flowers' born from the infinite encounter between the vessel and the plants are the summit we should strive for." Akane Teshigahara, the daughter of Sofu, the founder of the Sogetsu School, inherited the position of fourth-generation head of the school in 2001. She has given presentations at venues such as the Tokyo International Forum and Roppongi Hills, and has performed "Ikebana Live" across Japan, creating ikebana arrangements from scratch in stage spaces. She also performs overseas, including in Australia and Hong Kong. Drawing on her experience as a kindergarten teacher, she opened the "Akane Junior Class," an ikebana class for children. Her father, Hiroshi Teshigahara, adapted Abe Kobo's novel "Woman in the Dunes" into a film, which won numerous awards, including the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. His other films, "Another Person's Face" and "The Pitfall," also garnered high praise. He passed away in 2001.
