The Isetan Shinjuku store's 2013 Autumn/Winter exhibition featured wafers from the popular Italian sweets brand BABBI. BABBI was founded in 1952 in the Emuglia region of northeastern Italy as a cone factory for gelato. While many Japanese associate BABBI with chocolate, its wafers, which embody the brand's roots and cone-making expertise, are its signature sweets. While maintaining Italian tradition, the company has continued to evolve through extensive research, resulting in high-quality wafers that evoke a nostalgic yet modern and sophisticated flavor. The crispy texture and the perfect amount of sweetness create an exquisite harmony. We also recommend the Waffelini (from 1,995 yen), packed with bite-sized mini waffles, and the Waffelini Set (12 pieces/4,095 yen), which offers six flavors, including vanilla, pistachio, and strawberry!
In addition to the official online shop, it can also be purchased at special events held at department stores and other locations. It will be on sale on the first basement floor of Ginza Matsuya from July 31st to August 6th.
Also, this summer, a new type of gelato, "Soft Gelato," will be arriving in Japan for the first time. It has a soft texture that is different from both soft serve ice cream and gelato, and is made by Italian artisans and then air-shipped directly from the gelato mix, which is then extracted in-store and served. There are three flavors: pistachio, vanilla, and mix. A single cone costs 525 yen.
