
Musician David Sylvian's art project "abandon/hope," including a photo exhibition, will be held at two locations: Spiral Garden in Aoyama, Tokyo, and the Setouchi Triennale 2013. A photo book of the same name will also be released at the same time.
Approximately 70 of David's works will be exhibited at Spiral Garden from July 22nd to 29th (admission is free). This will be his first full-scale photo exhibition. David himself will visit Japan on July 22nd for an opening event starting at 7:00 PM. This will be held at Restaurant CAY (Spiral B1, 4,000 yen).
At the Setouchi Triennale 2013, photographs will be exhibited in the Uno Port area of Okayama from July 20th as part of the "City Photography Project." A sound installation curated by David and composed by sound artist Taylor Deupree will also be exhibited. David Sylvian was born in the UK in 1958. After making his debut with the rock band JAPAN, he began his solo career in the 1980s. In the early 1990s, he began creating art installations, and his main works include "Ember Glance (a performance of memory)" (1991) and "Redemption -- Approaching Silence" (1994). In 2006, he released a collaborative shirt with JULIUS. In 2012, he held a solo exhibition of instant film works, "growing enigmas," in Tokyo.
