A new film about Anton Corbijn, the legendary rock photographer who photographed U2 and Björk, is coming soon

Apr 6, 2013

"Anton Corbijn: The Light and Shadow of a Legendary Photographer" (distributed by Shinka), a documentary that follows rock photographer Anton Corbijn, who has continued to capture the world's greatest artists, will be released on April 6th.

His meticulous composition and style that captures the essence of the artist have earned him tremendous support from artists such as U2, Depeche Mode, The Rolling Stones, Joy Division, Nirvana, Coldplay, and Björk, and he has led the cultural scene in all forms of expression, going beyond mere photography to include album art direction, stage design, and music video production.

The highlight of the film is the footage of Anton working with world-class artists such as U2, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Lou Reed, and George Clooney. U2's Bono, who has collaborated with Anton for nearly 30 years and has photographed every album cover since 1983's "WAR," praises him, saying, "Musicians aspire to be the person they look like in Anton Corbijn's photographs."

In recent years, he has also been actively involved in filmmaking, and his 2007 directorial debut, "Control," based on the life of Ian Curtis, won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He also made his Hollywood debut with "The Last Target," starring George Clooney, which debuted at number one in the US. His new film, "A Most Wanted Man," brings together a stellar cast including Rachel McAdams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, and William Dafoe.

Although Anton has been active in the glamorous world for over 30 years, he has never revealed much about his private life. Born in the Netherlands in 1955 as the son of a pastor, this film follows Anton's journey to becoming a world-famous rock photographer, and his emotional journey after achieving success. It was directed by Claire Kuijns, also from the Netherlands. Filmed over a four-year period, the film explores the loneliness and sadness that Anton carries with him.

The film will be released at Theater Image Forum and other theaters from April 6th, with screenings nationwide to follow.
