Exhibition of architect and designer Alexander Girard features works from the Herman Miller archives

Oct 6, 2015

"Alexander Girard: An Uncommon Vision," an exhibition that allows visitors to experience the world of Alexander Girard, will be held at the Herman Miller store in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, from October 24 to November 7. Alexander Girard, who worked extensively as an architect and designer, was invited to Herman Miller by Charles Eames and George Nelson in 1952, where he established the textile department and became design director. By 1973, he had created more than 300 pieces, including textiles, wallpapers, decorative prints, and wall panels, all featuring vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and a humorous touch. He also gained fame for his work on the total design of restaurants such as La Fonda del Sol and Braniff Airlines.

The exhibition, which will be held at the Herman Miller Store, celebrating its 5th anniversary, will feature carefully selected textiles, accessories, furniture, and more from the Herman Miller archives. Customers will also be able to purchase newly released furniture and silkscreen panels, limited-edition 5th anniversary products by Charles Eames and George Nelson using Maharam textiles, and a wide range of designs and items endorsed by the Girard Foundation.
