From October 21st to 27th, Isetan Shinjuku will be selling bags that are a collaboration between the classic "Aries" series of Hanaa-fu, the original brand of handbag manufacturer BARCOS, and the manga "GeGeGe no Kitaro" at the Handbags/Hanaa-fu section on the first floor of the main building.
The "Kitaro bags" being sold at the store feature BARCOS's redesigned prints of characters from "GeGeGe no Kitaro," and come in two varieties: "GeGeGe no Kitaro Aries Italian Color" (H33cm x W33cm x D1cm, 46,000 yen) and "GeGeGe no Kitaro Aries Border" (H41.5cm x W41.5cm x D1cm, 48,000 yen). During the event, the store will be showcasing the bag as part of its "JAPAN SENSES" campaign, an initiative to rediscover the value of Japanese tradition, culture, and aesthetics and offer it to customers as new value. The bag is made from Hakushu cotton, which has been cultivated in Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture, since the Edo period. Sakaiminato is currently the only commercial producer of 100% organic cotton in Japan, and the cotton produced there has thick, resilient fibers, making it suitable for use in blankets and baby swaddles. According to Barcos, this collaboration was made possible not only because Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of "GeGeGe no Kitaro," is a native of Tottori Prefecture, but also because of the company's strong desire to preserve Japan's traditions, industry, and natural landscape for future generations. The Aries series, which is the subject of this collaboration, is a fun bag with an origami-inspired design, colorful colors, and the ability to transform into different shapes. It is sold in Japan as well as in Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, and other countries.
