Nike announced the 2015 NikeMag, a self-lacing sneaker, to coincide with October 21, 2015, the date Michael J. Fox's character, Marty, travels back in time in the 1989 film "Back to the Future Part II." The "2015 NikeMag" is a commercialized version of the sneaker featured in "Back to the Future Part II," which travels back in time to the future. The sneaker features "PowerLace," a self-lacing technology not available in the 2011 model. The unique design, still a part of pop culture today, has been further evolved by incorporating new digital technology. With this shoe, Nike has perfected a personalized system that senses the wearer's movements and delivers the comfort and support they desire. Nike is currently testing this technology in a variety of sports, and will continue to use the information gained from these tests to develop innovative footwear with unprecedented functionality for the future.
Nike also presented the 2015 Nike Mag to Michael J. Fox, the first celebrity to wear one. Going forward, the 2015 Nike Mag will be sold exclusively through a limited auction, with all proceeds donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, a Parkinson's disease research institute. Details of the auction will be announced on the official website and official Twitter in spring 2016.
