Tokyo Midtown's annual summer event, "MIDTOWN LOVES SUMMER 2015," will be held from July 17th to August 30th. This year, the "SUMMER LIGHT GARDEN" will be making its debut, and various events will be held under the theme of "Enjoying the coolness of a Japanese summer with all five senses." The illuminations, held daily from 6:30 PM to 11 PM, will feature a river of light gently flowing across the lawn, followed by a dynamic, 8-meter-tall, 30-meter-wide waterfall of light. As a special display, colorful "light fireworks" will also be launched. The fireworks range from large, 8-meter-tall fireworks, 10-shot bursts of star mines, and the impressive Niagara Falls. At the climax, colorful fireworks will be launched one after another in time with the music.
"OVER THE RIIIIIIINBOW ~Wind Chime Tones~" is an exhibition by Drawing and Manual, led by Seiichi Nishikawa, director of the special exhibition "Science of Movement" currently being held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in Roppongi, Tokyo. Seven types of wind chimes are displayed throughout the building, divided into three areas on the first, second, and third floors, linked to rainbow-colored organza decorations evoking the summer sky. On the first floor, an ensemble of six types of wind chimes can be enjoyed, while on the second floor, visitors can enjoy the varying tones of natural wind chimes made from binchotan charcoal, stone, and ceramic. Furthermore, on the third floor, metal wind chimes produce high-pitched, clear tones, and a system that blows wind when it senses human movement has been introduced as a collaborative project with the "Science of Movement" exhibition.
BACARDI MIDPARK CAFE, an outdoor cafe by BACARDI, the world's number one rum brand, will sell a variety of drinks and food, including BACARDI mojitos. Mega-sized mojitos will also be available, served in fresh fruit containers such as watermelon and pineapple. Special mojitos made with seasonal fruits will also be offered, changing weekly.
Other events will include ASHIMIZU, where you can soak your feet in the stream that runs through Midtown Garden and enjoy the cool Japanese evening breeze, and a kids' program called "Summer Holiday: Kids Enjoy Midtown."
