Urban and celebrity summer nails created with Deborah Lippmann's "ultimate white" [Today's item]

Jul 8, 2015

For this project, nail artist JUNKO will suggest easy and stylish do-it-yourself nail designs every day for 17 days. Today's design is a celebrity-inspired, cool aesthetic inspired by urban women. The polish brand used is Deborah Lippmann.

Deborah Lippmann is an American brand that's steadily gaining popularity among do-it-yourselfers and is available at Barneys New York and Restir. Its distinctive bottle design resembles a Western architectural pillar.

"I envisioned this nail art style with gorgeous women like Kim Kardashian in mind. Just as the all-white look is popular in fashion, I want to see white incorporated into nails in a cool way. Pairing it with a light-colored outfit like a skin-toned blouse creates a sharp, polished look," says JUNKO.

The key to this nail design is the vibrant white color. "There are many different shades of white, and the nuances vary slightly depending on the brand. Deborah Lippmann's 60 is a pure white that is neither yellow nor blue. It pairs perfectly with gold," says Junko. The neutral beige 129 has a slightly muted hue that's perfect for this year. It's a new color released in May.

■Items Used
Nail Polish 60, 116, 129 ¥2,800 each

■How to
(1) Shape the hands into a slightly sharp, long, round shape.
(2) Make a polish sticker (*) using 60 and cut it into a rectangle about 6-7mm wide. Cut the length to about the length of your own nails, leaving room for a little extra.
(3) Apply masking tape (or cellophane tape, if you don't have masking tape) leaving one-third of the base, then paint the base with 116 on top.
(4) After peeling off the tape, paint all but the bottom third with 129.
(5) Before 129 dries, attach the bottom of the polish sticker you made in (2) along the 116 line. Wait for the excess part to dry and set before cutting it off. We recommend using scissors with a small blade and rounded tip like eyebrow scissors.
(6) Apply 60 to the entire foot and use 116 on the tip. Finish with a modified French cut with straight lines.

*How to make polish stickers
...All you need is a clear file. Use the clear file as a backing and draw a square with the polish you want to make the sticker with. We recommend applying 2-3 coats. Once dry, it will peel off like a film from the clear file. Cut it into the shape you like and use it like a sticker. If the color underneath has dried when you apply it, use the base coat as adhesive.
