Converse is holding a special event celebrating the 80th anniversary of its iconic Jack Purcell shoe at Spiral Garden in Aoyama, Tokyo, on July 11th and 12th. The event will feature ceremonial wear created by costume artist Kodue Hibino specifically for the 80th anniversary, as well as the new "TimeLine" series "JACK PURCELL 80," creating a memorable space that embodies the world of Jack Purcell. In 1935, badminton player Jack Purcell, who won the world championship 14 years in a row, co-developed the Jack Purcell as the highest-quality court shoe of its time. The grass-covered venue, designed to resemble a tennis court, showcased two women's and three men's figures based on the brand's new 2015-16 autumn/winter collection, along with new shoes, design drawings, and visuals. The ceremonial wear designed by Hibino uses the same textile as the shoes. It also incorporates Jack Purcell icons and details, such as smiley face motifs on the sleeves, dresses with smiley face motifs on the hem, and jackets with blue beards on the collar. The production took about a month, and Hibino also created the innerwear and headpiece. In addition, to commemorate the 80th anniversary, three "Jack Purcell 80" models are on display, recreating the stitching and silhouette of models released in the 1980s. The venue also features a photo booth where you can take commemorative photos with the five displayed images as the backdrop. Behind it, there is a corner where you can try on shoes in all sizes. Visitors will also receive an original postcard featuring the design on a first-come, first-served basis.
