Just having it there transports you to another world. If there's such a rich interior design, it's Tom Dixon. With its punchy colors and minimal yet glamorous forms, his designs are more like art pieces than interior decor. Describing his designs inevitably requires the use of provocative words. Tunisian-born product designer Tom Dixon opened his second brand store in Aoyama, Tokyo, on July 17th (2-1-13 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). The store is filled with lighting, furniture, and home accessories, including fragrances and tableware. Fans will be thrilled to find that over 70% of the products, including his signature "Wingback Chair" and "Beat Light" series, are being sold in Japan for the first time. The collection includes witty pieces, such as the golden tea set that was a hit at the MoMA Store, a unique men's shoe doorstop, and a steel tower-shaped bowl. Tom Dixon himself was involved in the store's design, so stepping inside feels like immersing yourself in his rich world. Two days before the opening, Tom Dixon visited Japan for a party, where he spoke about the appeal of the new lighting fixtures, "Melt" and "Lens," which are the highlights of the store. He explained that "Melt," with its molten-like shape, was particularly challenging to create, and each piece was handcrafted over the course of a year. He also explained that one of the reasons for opening the store next to Aoyama Gakuin University was to provide an opportunity for many young people to experience design. "I want to create a new future from here. I'd also like to develop products for the Japanese market," he said with a smile. We hope you enjoy the charm of this unique and quirky one-of-a-kind store, which gives you the feeling of peeking into another world.
