■ "Studying about something" Anonymous birds" by Kano Tetsuro
Kano Tetsuro is a contemporary artist who began his career with "Germination - Weeds," in which he plants and grows seeds in the exhibition space. By incorporating living creatures into his works, he suspends the meaning of the spaces and materials prepared by humans for other people, awakening the viewer to new possibilities. Kano's first photo book, "Studying about something: Anonymous birds," features 30 snapshots taken daily at the places he has stayed and passed through. This series is an experiment in "finding connections between landscapes of different times and places." The 30 large-format photographs, packed into a box, depict roadside birds. Each captures the "ambiguous distance" between the photographer and the anonymous birds—a closeness that allows for a pleasant gaze, yet a foreign, unfamiliar distance. The text, "Anonymous birds," is also available on Kano's official website. The "Art Botanical Garden" exhibition is being held at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art from August 7 to October 4. Taking a comprehensive look at plants from ancient to modern times, the exhibition explores how they have been depicted, classified, and recorded, from both artistic and scientific perspectives. This is a unique project that turns the museum's exhibition rooms into greenhouses, allowing visitors to appreciate the diverse ecology of birds as if strolling through an "artistic botanical garden."
Contemporary art will include new works by Kano Tetsuro, Watanabe Eiji, and Imamura Aya, as well as works by Wolfgang Tillmans. Kano Tetsuro will exhibit "New Plants 2014."
