Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "must-read books" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be visiting the flagship store, NADiff Apartment in Ebisu, Tokyo (1-18-4 NADiff A/P/A/R/T, 1F, Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).
■ "DIM" by HANAYO
This latest photo book by Hanayo, a versatile Japanese artist active as a photographer, contemporary artist, and musician, is her first ambitious work to feature entirely black and white photographs, a first for her, despite having always presented her work in color since taking up photography.
After living in Germany for approximately 15 years, she returned to Japan in 2010. Resuming her life in Japan after a long absence, she photographed her hometown of Tokyo, as well as the people she encountered in the cities she visited.
This photo book beautifully captures her ongoing sensibility, capturing moments in everyday life with her distinctive, ephemeral framing, including her daughter and model Tenko, as well as the scenery and events around her, while also adding a lyrical atmosphere through monochrome.
